Welcome to The Bus on the Hill

If you're looking for total peace, tranquility and beauty in abundance, long walks on the doorstep but close to the M5 (5.5 miles jk27) and stay in unusual, different and quirky with comfort and all the conveniences then The Bus on the Hill is for you.

The historical villages of Bampton (4 miles) and Dulverton ( 10 miles and the location for the well known film The Land Girls ) and Tiverton ( 9 miles ) where there is access to children’s entertainment and Supermarkets.

There is an abundance of local pubs, cafes and local food shops within these villages. The beautiful rolling hills of Exmoor with its wild ponies is 20 minutes drive away for endless walks. Being in the centre of Devon the North and South coasts are just over an hours drive away in each direction with their world renowned beaches.

Outside

As you approach you will find the patio area with plenty of seating and access to a barbecue. Just fire that up and enjoy the outstanding view that pans out in-front of you looking down in the distance to Sidmouth Gap. Just off the patio is the bathroom kitted out with a good size shower and toilet. The Bus is completely off-grid with Solar Panels on the roof and backup generator.

Ground Floor

The door to the bus opens onto the kitchen area equipped with a vintage gas cooker and 4 gas hob, you will also find the up to date luxury of a coffee maker, microwave and air fryer. There is the wood burner for those slightly chillier days. The breakfast bar looks out the window directly at those views! At the back of the bus we have the Snug which can be used for chilling, reading or could be for extra sleeping area for children if you wish (sleeping Bags can be provided please ask at booking)

1st Floor

Climb the stairs and on the right we have the huge bed over the the front which is surrounded by windows just imagine laying in the morning looking out again over those viewings with no sounds other than Mother Nature ( and if your lucky you can watch the deer grazing or seeking past ) The sitting room is in the centre with chairs and TV set up for an evening of relaxing. At the back upstairs lays the double bedroom with everything you need.

The Local Area

Moors

Visit the wilds of Exmoor a short 20 minutes drive away. With its stunning scenery and miles of walking paths there is no where else like it! Follow the path of the Laura Doone story and its history. See the famous Exmoor ponies living wild all the year round on the moor along with sheep and cattle. Places to visit include Tarr Steps, Lanacre Bridge, The Exmoor Pony Centre, Exmoor Zoo, Porlock and its famous hill, Lynton and Lymouth to name just a few.


The hills of Dartmoor are just over an hour away, with its stunning little villages like Widecombe-in-the-Moor. With its history and the eerie atmosphere of Dartmoor Prison. Learn the story of The Hound of the Baskervilles, visit Buckfast Abbey, and explore the beauty of Lydford Gorge and the striking Castle Drogo. The moor’s dramatic landscapes and granite tors offer a truly unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventurers alike.

Coast

The coast is an hour’s drive away in either direction—north or south—offering easy access to some of the UK’s most beautiful shorelines. Devon has two distinct coastlines, each with its own unique character and charm. Whether you're after dramatic cliffs or gentle bays, both offer stunning scenery and plenty to explore.


The rugged North Devon coast runs along the Bristol Channel facing onto the Atlantic Ocean making it a superb area for surfing, it has outstanding sandy beaches of which Saunton Sands, Croyde Bay, Woolacombe and the stunning village of Clovelly.


The south coast has a winding coastline with beautiful estuaries, coves and beaches. Walk the South West Coast Path and visit the English Riviera with its restaurants and cafes well known for their seafood. Recommended beaches worth a visit are Salcombe, Dartmouth, Exmouth, Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton

Towns

The area is full of beautiful towns and villages. Tiverton, about 20 minutes away, has major supermarkets and the nearest A&E hospital. Closer still is the vibrant and picturesque village of Bampton, home to award-winning pubs like The Swan, charming cafés, a bakery, butcher, and greengrocer. The Quarryman’s pub also hosts visiting pizza and fish & chip vans—check their Facebook for details.


A little further is Dulverton, known for its role in the wartime film Land Girls. It offers shops, pubs, cafés, and riverside walks. Porlock Weir and Dunster Castle are both scenic and historic spots worth the drive.


On the North Devon Coast, Lynton and Lynmouth—nicknamed "Little Switzerland"—are connected by a unique cliffside funicular railway. Minehead offers a flat beach, a harbour, gardens, shops, and the charming West Somerset Steam Railway.
